What Should You Consider Before Migrating Your Store to BigCommerce?

Цитата

There have been a few "should I move to BigCommerce?" threads lately, so here's my two cents. I've seen this go fine and I've seen it go badly, and the difference was mostly prep.

  • Be honest about why you're moving. It's great for B2B and huge catalogs. For a small shop selling a few dozen things, I honestly think it's overkill, and you'd be fine staying put.
  • Your data will be messier than you think. Basic products and orders come across okay. Variants and custom fields? Not so much. And passwords can't be exported in plain text, so figure out the login situation before launch, not after. Nothing says "welcome back" like 500 reset emails.
  • Don't mess up the redirects. Seen this one kill traffic more than once. New URLs with no 301s means Google just loses your pages for a while. Rough.
  • Write down every tool your store touches. ERP, CRM, shipping, payments, whatever. A lot of them have connectors, but "a lot" isn't "all", so check yours.
  • Look at gateway fees. The built-in payment partners don't add transaction fees. Others do, and it adds up quicker than you'd expect.
  • Custom stuff costs time. Anything beyond the default checkout or an ERP sync is where BigCommerce development gets tricky, and I'd rather see someone get it done properly than hack it together.
  • Test on staging. I know, everyone says it. People still skip it.

Anyone moved recently? Curious what bit you, because something always does.
